Anthropic Hired North America’s Largest Security Firm. Now a Labor Dispute Has Closed Its Offices

The tech startup is reportedly preparing for a potential strike to disrupt in-person work.

Anthropic has told its employees to work from home in anticipation of a potential strike from its security team. 

The AIstartup received a notice from its security staffing firm, Allied Universal, regarding the potential strike, as firsthas closed its San Francisco offices and asked employees to work from home

Anthropic is not set to be part of contract negotiations, but it will feel the disruption if union members go on strike in the coming days.

Allied Universal has a bargaining agreement with the Service Employees International Union, which represents thousands of security workers in California, where Anthropic is based.

According toBusiness Insider, SEIU has been in contract negotiations with Allied and other California security firms since April, as it seeks to increase wages, improve healthcare coverage, and expand job training for workers it represents across the state. The union has yet to officially call a strike authorization vote or issue any strike threats for this week. 

Allied Universal did not immediately respond to Inc.’s request for comment.
